NAXFL Tiebreaking Procedures
There are currently two conferences, each with two divisions of five teams each. Each conference will have
its playoff teams seeded separately. The two conference champions will meet in the championship game.
The two championship game participants will be seeded by best regular season record with normal tie-breakers
applied.
Conference Playoffs – these tie-breaker rules are duplicated for each conference.
The four postseason participants will be seeded as follows:
1. The division champion with the best record.
2. The division champion with the second-best record.
3. The Wild Card team with the best record.
4. The Wild Card team with the second-best record.
No team that qualifies by W-L-T record will be eliminated from the playoffs without a chance to play for the spot.
If there is a tie for the final playoff spot(s) the following will be used to seed the teams.
Tiebreakers will be used as necessary to determine the first three playoff seeds.
The Bailey Rule
No team is eliminated from a wild card playoff spot by tie-breaker rules. All teams that qualify by record are in the playoffs.
Normal tiebreakers will be used to seed all playoff teams, with the idea of getting the number of teams to 4 or 8.
# Rule for seeding teams
4 #4 plays at #1, #3 plays at #2
5 #5 plays at #4, #1, #2 & #3 have a first round bye
6 #6 plays at #3, #5 plays at #4, #1 & #2 have a first round bye
7 #7 plays at #2, #6 plays at #3, #5 plays at #4, #1 has a first round bye
8 #8 plays at #1, #7 plays at #2, #6 plays at #3, #5 plays at #4

10 #10 plays at #7, #9 plays at #8, #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, & #6 have a first round bye
The Berkeley Exemption: The Bailey Rule does not apply in determining division champions.
Note: If there are more than two Bailey Rule teams and two are in the same division normal division tie-breakers are
are used to determine the division champion. The division champion is exempt from the Bailey Rule playoff.

In determining W-L-T % a tie counts as half a win and half a loss.
Wild Card Tie-Breakers are used for non-Division tie-breakers.
Any tie-breaker involving common opponents requires that all teams involved have played opponent.
A tie-breaker step advances1 (first priority) or eliminates2 one team. Any remaining teams after this step start over with
relevant tie-breakers between them.
1 Advances means getting the highest playoff seed or the better draft pick.
2 Eliminates means getting the lowest playoff seed or the worse draft pick.
