NAXFL Tiebreaking Procedures
There are currently two conferences, each with two divisions of five teams each. Each conference will have
its playoff teams seeded separately. The two conference champions will meet in the championship game.
The two championship game participants will be seeded by best regular season record with normal tie-breakers
applied.
Conference Playoffs – these tie-breaker rules are duplicated for each conference.
The four postseason participants will be seeded as follows:
1. The division champion with the best record.
2. The division champion with the second-best record.
3. The Wild Card team with the best record.
4. The Wild Card team with the second-best record.
No team that qualifies by W-L-T record will be eliminated from the playoffs without a chance to play for the spot.
If there is a tie for the final playoff spot(s) the following will be used to seed the teams.
Tiebreakers will be used as necessary to determine the first three playoff seeds.
The Bailey Rule
If there are still teams tied after the first 3 playoff seeds have been determined the final spot will be determined
by "Bailey Rule" playoff game(s) as follows:
Normal tiebreakers will be used to seed all Bailey Rule teams.
For 5 or fewer teams
If there is an even number of teams the highest seed will play the lowest, the next highest will play the next
lowest and so on.
If there is an odd number of teams the two lowest seeds will play first to eliminate one. After each round of games
the winning teams will be reseeded and the process will be repeated until the final playoff spot is determined.
For 6 or 7 teams
The objective of the first Bailey Rule round will be to get the number of teams down to 4.
If there are 6 teams the first round will have the 3 seed playing the 6 seed and the 4 seed playing the 5 seed. The
1 and 2 seeds will have a bye.
If there are 7 teams it will be the same as for 6 teams except the 2 seed will have to play the 7 seed and only the
1 seed will have a bye.
The Berkeley Exemption: The Bailey Rule does not apply in determining division champions.
Note: If there are more than two Bailey Rule teams and two are in the same division normal division tie-breakers are
are used to determine the division champion. The division champion is exempt from the Bailey Rule playoff.
In determining W-L-T % a tie counts as half a win and half a loss.
Wild Card Tie-Breakers are used for non-Division tie-breakers.
Any tie-breaker involving common opponents requires that all teams involved have played opponent.

OTHER TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURES
1. Only one team advances to the playoffs in any tie-breaking step. Remaining tied teams revert to the
first step of the applicable division or wild-card tie breakers.
As an example, if two teams remain tied in any tie-breaker step after all other teams have been eliminated, the
procedure reverts to step one of the two-team format to determine the winner.
When one team wins the tie breaker, all other teams revert to step 1 of the applicable two-team or three-team format.
2. In comparing division and conference records or records against common opponents among tied teams, the
best won-lost-tied percentage is the deciding factor since teams may have played an unequal number of games.
3. To determine home-field priority among division champions, apply Wild-Card tie breakers.
4. To determine home-field priority for Wild-Card qualifiers, apply division tie breakers (if teams are from the same
division) or Wild-Card tie breakers (if teams are from different divisions).
TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURE FOR COLLEGE DRAFT ORDER
1. All non-playoff teams pick in inverse order of record, with division or wild card tie-breakers applied as necessary.
2. All teams eliminated in any Bailey Rule playoff spot playoffs pick in the order they were eliminated, with teams
eliminated in the same round picking in inverse order of their playoff seed.
3. Playoff teams pick in the order they were eliminated, with teams eliminated in the same round
picking in inverse order of their playoff seed.
4. The Championship Game winner is last and the Championship Game loser next-to-last.
TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURE FOR FREE AGENT DRAFT ORDER
1. The order is the same as the College Draft Order
2. All teams that are still over the Year's Cap at the end of the Post-Preseason Free Agent Draft will have the draft
extended, replacing players until they are at or under the cap.
