It is fairly rare that players, once they reach the professional level, change positions. The skill sets involved have become too specialized to allow this. Therefore to mimic this the following restrictions on changes are in place. Player Averages ------------------------------ --------------------------------- No Position Pos Ht Wt Y Spd Run Rcv Blk Pass Kick ------------------------------ --------------------------------- 1 Tight End TE 6' 4" 238 1 4.7 77 87 84 50 50 2 Wide Receiver WR 6' 0" 187 1 4.5 74 89 75 50 50 3 Running Back RB 6' 0" 212 1 4.6 89 83 81 50 50 4 Quarterback QB 6' 2" 206 1 4.7 75 50 50 89 50 5 Offensive Line OL 6' 4" 276 1 5.0 50 50 88 50 50 6 Defensive Line DL 6' 4" 268 1 4.9 50 50 89 50 50 7 Linebacker LB 6' 2" 233 1 4.7 88 83 85 50 50 8 Defensive Back DB 6' 0" 191 1 4.5 80 89 77 50 50 9 Kicker/Punter K/P 6' 0" 197 1 5.0 50 50 50 50 92 Any offensive player can start at TE2 or TE3 without having to permanently change positions. TE2 is primarily a blocking position so ideally at TE2 one would want a high block rating and higher weight. TE3 blocks on short yardage running plays but is also a, if not the, primary receiver in short yardage passing plays. Thus one would want someone at TE3 with good receiving skills as well as decent blocking ability. The advantage of permanently changing positions shows when the computer coach is selecting injury replacements. If, for example, your starter at TE2 gets hurt for a few minutes the computer coach will select a backup TE, WR or a RB (in that order of preference). If you are starting an out of position player there the computer coach will likely not place him back in the lineup at TE2, even after they recover from their injury, if a player ahead of them in the selection order is available. Permanent changes with RB, WR or TE - “Permanent” changes must stay with their new designations for at least four games. RB - Can be changed to TE if weight is 211 or higher and blocking is 80 or higher. Generally done with RB's that are mediocre to poor runners but have good receiving and blocking skills. Can be changed to WR if weight is under 200, speed is 4.5 or faster, run is 85 or less and blocking is 81 or less. WR - Can be changed to TE if weight is 211 or higher and blocking is 80 or higher. TE - Can only be changed to WR if speed is 4.6 or faster and blocking is 81 or less. Can only be changed to RB if player was originally a RB that was changed to TE. If made these changes must be made for the entire season: OL - Can be changed to DL if blocking is 88 or lower. DL - Can be changed to OL if weight is at least 255 and blocking is 89 or lower. DB - Can be changed to WR if receiving is 88 or lower. WR - Can be changed to DB if receiving is 88 or lower.
